(Larry, 47 – Lawyer – Miami, USA)                                                                                                                                                                          I never thought it will lead to this, but it did. I’m addicted to pornography and it has ruined my life! Porn addiction? How embarrassing!

Porn addiction starts easy

Being in a relationship is not all fun and games. You get in a fight from time to time, it’s normal. But, the way I’d react was not normal. One time after a fight, instead of going to bed and letting the sleep work out our trivial problems, I browsed the internet looking for a release, a way out. It started out slowly, I’d visit those sites from time to time, but it started affecting the sexual part of our relationship. I stopped being interested in having private time with my girlfriend and made up excuses only to find new, exciting videos. It was time consuming, it affected my relationship, my work and basically my whole life.

Guilty and ashamed

After some time, I noticed that I’d feel guilty and ashamed after watching porn. The time spent browsing for new content that will spark the excitement in me was getting longer and longer, I became a creep sitting in a dark room looking for porn. I finally realized how sad was all that.

What’s the opposite of addiction?

It is a hard thing to cope with. I’ve decided that I needed to stop and to regain the control over my life. But, it’s hard when you’re just a few clicks away from it. But I’ve started enjoying the time I’d save from not wasting it on porn. I’ve somehow managed to save my relationship and get to the bottom of the problems that got me here in the first place. Any addiction is hard to deal with, to truly get rid of it, we need to know what got us there in the first place. The opposite of addiction is not sobriety, or being free of the cause, the true opposite is joy and love.
